Tasia (“The Boys of Brighton” series) launches the “Fire Lake” series with this romance that is an homage to military veterans. After his aunt dies, retired Navy SEAL Christopher “Brick” Matthews returns to the lake house where he lived with her, and decides to renovate the falling-down house. Then one of his former SEAL teammates shows up at loose ends, and an unscrupulous realtor won’t take no for an answer. When Brick meets with the realtor, his client, and the client’s son, he discovers that he’s not the only one disgusted by their tactics. Roman Furrow can’t believe his father hired a realtor to try and force Brick out of his home through deplorable tactics. It’s not enough his father tried to ruin the family business; now his obsession with Brick’s property is borderline unhinged. When Brick and Roman work together to straighten out the mess, their mutual attraction pulls Brick into Roman’s life, where he discovers someone has been trying to kill him and make it look accidental. Having found the man of his dreams, Brick isn’t about to let that happen.
VERDICT Highly recommended for fans of Annabeth Albert’s “Out of Uniform” series, S. E. Jakes’s “Men of Honor” series, and L. A. Witt’s “Anchor Point” series.
