The Bloomsbury Companion to Islamic Studies

This book is not likely to be particularly helpful for the general reader, as it is very dense and concentrates more on the state of the field and the theory and methodology of Islamic studies rather than discussing Islam itself. For the latter, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World is likely to be far more helpful. An excellent overview for advanced students and scholars pursuing research in the field of Islamic studies.
