Moyes’s strong story contains intrigue and humor, sympathetic, complex characters, and a satisfying conclusion. For Moyes fans but also those who enjoy the novels of Karen White and Melissa de los Santos.
Rich in history, with well-developed characters and a strong sense of place, this book will fit well in any library’s fiction collection. For fans of Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants or Catherine Marshall’s Christy. [See Prepub Alert, 4/15/19; “Fall Fireworks,” LJ 8/19.]
Moyes (Me Before You; After You) is a master of character development, allowing each of her protagonists to stumble, shine, and surprise in all their humanity. Recommended for fans of the author and general fiction collections. [See Prepub Alert, 10/31/16.]
This brief but entertaining anthology, told with Moyes's patented mix of romance and gentle social commentary, sticks closely to the feel of her previous works, so current fans will be greatly satisfied. Also recommended for genre readers who are looking for something short and sweet. [See Prepub Alert, 5/23/16.]
A necessary book for public libraries everywhere. Moyes's many fans will line up to read more about Lou. The author's usual style is reflected, ensuring that fans of romance and family drama will be delighted. [See Prepub Alert, 3/23/15.]
Moyes's (Me Before You; The Girl You Left Behind; One Plus One) engrossing and well-written novel with romantic content is light but powerful. Through emotive language and suspense, the author effectively thrusts readers into the brides' world of anxiety, urgency, hope, and excitement. Highly recommended for historical romance readers.
This 2007 novel, now available in the United States, is more traditionally romantic than Moyes's newer work. Fans of her recent blockbuster Me Before You may find this book less powerfully engaging. Its strengths lie in the author's apt characterizations and evocation of place. It will likely be of interest to Moyes fans and those who enjoy a solid romance.
