Drop In: The Gender Rebels Who Changed the Face of Skateboarding

Stoll’s inaugural work is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the remarkable contributions of women, queer, bisexual, and nonbinary skaters who transformed the landscape of skateboarding. It focuses on four trailblazers who, beginning in the 1970s, defied societal expectations related to gender, talent, physical capability, and mental strength. When Marbie Miller, Alana Smith, Victoria Taylor, and Vanessa Torres became professional skaters, their path was not an easy one, as they defied deeply rooted cultural expectations. The presence of women in skateboarding was largely invisible, behind the camera and on skate desks. The life of each of the four women is chronicled through her journey from outsider to celebrated star, culminating with their historic debut of skateboarding as a sport at the Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021. The audio, narrated by the author and Daru Oda, has steady pacing as they convey an interesting tale of how these gender rebels have shaped the history and future path of skateboarding.
