This hefty collection of "interviews and encounters" with members of the enduring musical group Fleetwood Mac tells their long and dramatic story in their own words. Although there are some pieces about/mentions of long-departed founding member Peter Green and other former bandmates, the majority of the stories cover the era that editor Egan calls "the
Rumours Five": Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Stevie Nicks. Most of the entries were previously published in rock music magazines such as
NME, Creem, Mojo, and
Goldmine, but some are appearing here in print for the first time. The 40 pieces are arranged chronologically, and each has a brief preface by Egan that provides context and points out errors (reprints were made without corrections). Fanatics will likely read this book cover to cover and revisit the group's arc (the entries are from 1967 to 2014, but Fleetwood Mac is indeed still a thing), while casual fans may only seek out the sections about their favorite member or album.
VERDICT Libraries with pop music titles need to make room for this one, which will appeal to serious and general Fleetwood Mac admirers alike. Fans of Stevie Nicks only will also be delighted.
