Sixty-year-old Steven, a Caucasian tollbooth collector, could have met a woman among the 25 percent Asian population of California, where he lives, but, through an all-Chinese dating service, instead he corresponds with and finally flies to China to bring back Sandy, age 30. They encounter the normal problems: lack of money, some jealousy over past relationships, his messiness and hoarding propensities (especially photos of former Chinese girlfriends), and the size of the wedding. But they adjust to the difficulties of language, making friends, and, apparently, intimate relations. Will Steven and Sandy find happiness? They have the same 50 percent chance as other married couples in the United States.
VERDICT A sitcom-like documentary without the laughs. Not recommended.
