Asserting that the right mental edge differentiates champions from peer athletes, sports psychologist Afremow (Lengthen Your Line) presents aphorisms and anecdotes intended to keep listeners aware of the importance of a positive, strong mind-set. Though clear to the point of simplistic, the included exercises and techniques are intended to sharpen mental skills and are grouped into "chapter a day"-sized chunks. Advice is helpful, if tame, and favors team sports as opposed to endurance endeavors. Eric Michael Summerer's narration is pleasant and even, though there is little he can do to combat the repetitive nature of the material.
VERDICT Good for those listeners striving for excellence, especially serious recreational athletes and weekend warriors. This will also find appreciative ears in the business world and the self-help realm as the advice can be easily applied to life in general.
