Interest in holistic pet care is on the rise, and as such, more books and research on the subject are becoming available. Some of these titles focus on certain topics, while others are broader in range. This work falls into the latter category. Holistic Home Company founder Benko (The Holistic Home: Feng Shui for Mind, Body, Spirit, Space) discusses how dogs have become holistically integrated into our lives by sharing their stories and images of their spaces. This book is roughly divided into two sections. Part 1, "Space," is comprised of photographs of 108 dogs featured later in the volume. Part 2 delves into the animal's mind, body, and spirit. Benko keeps the spotlight on the dogs by only using their names, not the names of their owners. While the first section uses photographs to convey how dogs interact in their own habitats, the second relies on tips and suggestions from professional Reiki experts, canine nutritionists, and a psychic. General tips are interspersed throughout. Both sections are useful, but the transition between the two is a bit rocky.
VERDICT A solid purchase for pet owners new to the subject and those who would like to learn more about holistic care.
