Michal (Noa Koler), a quirky thirtysomething religious Jerusalemite who makes her living providing a mobile petting zoo for children's parties, decides she must get married. Marriage brokers introduce her to religious men, but she fails to find "the one." She travels to Ukraine to visit the grave of a rabbi known to bring luck to wannabe brides, but the magic fails her. Then, Michal decides that God will provide the groom if she takes care of everything else, so she arranges with a wedding hall for a marriage package for 200 guests, outfits a new apartment, and waits for her heavenly miracle. Michal is charming, expressive, and believable, but her mother, sister, friends, potential mates, and other minor characters are not, and the story drags on far too long. American viewers may need briefing on Orthodox Israeli Jewish culture in order to understand the story fully.
VERDICT Recommended with reservations for public library collections.
