Nora Burmeister appointed Content Strategy Librarian at University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, Traci Engel Lesneski named CEO and President of MSR Design, Hartford PL Director Bridget Quinn-Carey honored with one of Hartford Business Journal's 2020 Women in Business Awards, and more library people news.

Nora Burmeister head shotThe University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill University Libraries has appointed Nora Burmeister, previously Online Learning and Electronic Services Librarian at Central Carolina Community College, Sanford, NC, as Content Strategy Librarian.

Traci Engel Lesneski head shotTraci Engel LesneskI, previously Principal and Head of Interiors at Minneapolis-based library design firm MSR Design, assumed the role of CEO and President on March 3.

Hartford Public Library President and CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey was one of 15 women honored by the Hartford Business Journal with its 2020 Women in Business Award, which recognizes outstanding women who are senior level executives, CEOs, and entrepreneurs.

Jesse Montero has been named Director of the Yonkers Public Library, NY, after a 15-year career at Brooklyn Public Library, where he most recently served as director of its Central Library.

Jennifer Schantz, currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the New-York Historical Society, has been named Executive Director of New York Public Library’s Performing Arts Library, effective this May. She succeeds Jacqueline Davis.

Wendy Scott, Associate Director for Organizational Design and Learning at North Carolina State University Libraries, Raleigh, will retire this spring from the Libraries after nearly 30 years of service.

Idaho State University (ISU), Pocatello, has appointed Sandra Shropshire as the Dean of the University Libraries. Shropshire has worked at ISU’s Eli M. Oboler Library for more than 32 years and most recently served as Interim Dean.

Linda Kopecky has been appointed as the Associate Dean of University Libraries and Teaching and Learning Technologies at the University of Nevada–Reno (UNR). Kopecky joined the Libraries mid-January 2020 after serving as the Head of Research Services at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Also at UNR, John Schleicher joined the Special Collections and University Archives Department as the Community and University Archivist in February. Schleicher previously worked for 16 years as Head of Special Collections in the McGoogan Library of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Shaun Vigil, formerly at Palgrave Macmillan, has joined Temple University Press as Acquisitions Editor; he will acquire books in Asian American Studies, African American Studies, Latinx Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Disability Studies, and Literary Studies, as well as regional interest titles.

IN MEMORIAM

Tammy Faxel, Publisher at audiobook distributor and producer Dreamscape Media, died on March 30 at age 55.

Mary Jo Lynch, Reference Librarian at the University of Detroit from 1962–69 and at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst) from 1969–71, Assistant Professor in the School of Library Science at the University of Michigan from 1971–73, and Director of the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Research and Statistics from 1976–2003, died on February 26 at age 80.
