Abrams’s experience as a Georgia legislator and big-time lawyer support insights into bureaucracy and security. The nonstop action and suspense mostly manage to overwhelm the reader’s sense of disbelief in a thriller that seems to burst out of today’s news.
Although it’s not successful as a thriller, the book’s plethora of women role models, including a chief justice, and its “inside DC” look at political skullduggery make Abrams’s novel a well-informed political and legal narrative.
Insight into Abrams and her personal and political journey are the main strengths of this important book. Those not familiar with U.S. voting history will find it to be especially informative.
