Five years after her last book in the series (The Lost Woman), Blaedel returns with a riveting story that combines a journalist’s investigation of a cold case with the police search for a missing woman. It’s tailor-made for Karin Slaughter’s readers.
Readers of more serious Scandinavian mysteries may be disappointed, but fans of Laura Lippman and Sophie Hannah might enjoy this novel. The cliff-hanger endings are sure to commit readers and libraries to the whole series.
Blaedel delivers another solid story with a surprise twist ending. Recommended for fans of the series and for those who enjoy contemporary Scandinavian mysteries from Kjell Eriksson, Camilla Lackberg, and Mari Jungstedt. [See Prepub Alert 4/23/18.]
The first volume in Blaedel's (The Forgotten Girls; The Killing Forest) new series seems at times more setup than stand-alone story. While Nordic noir is often dark and dreary, this is a lighter entry that doesn't lose any of the suspense that marks the genre. A great start for mystery lovers looking to dip a toe into international intrigue. [See Prepub Alert, 8/13/17.]
As one of the preeminent voices in contemporary Scandinavian crime fiction, Blaedel solidifies once more why her novels are as much finely drawn character studies as tightly plotted procedurals, always landing with a punch to the gut and the heart. [See Prepub Alert, 8/26/16.]
Blaedel excels at portraying the darkest side of Denmark. Readers who enjoyed the previous mystery will especially appreciate this story as it finally provides some closure for Louise. [See Prepub Alert, 8/10/15.]
Already an international best seller, this outing by Denmark's "Queen of Crime" offers trademark Scandinavian crime fiction with a tough detective and a very grim mystery. Blaedel is incredibly talented at keeping one reading even as one wants to look away from the graphic scenes. Recommend to fans of Camilla Läckberg and Liza Marklund. [See Prepub Alert, 8/22/14.]
Blaedel once again tackles a current social issue in her mystery. The two parallel stories are equally compelling, with the end of the case leading the reader to believe that Rick's life will be changed forever. Recommended for series fans and readers of Scandinavian crime fiction. Blaedel was voted Denmark's most popular novelist for the third time in 2011.
Blaedel has created an original, fast-paced plot featuring a strong female character and the timely topic of what can go wrong when one looks for love online. This will be popular among fans of Scandinavian writers such as Håkan Nesser, Kjell Eriksson, and Camilla Läckberg as well as readers who enjoy police procedurals set in foreign countries.
