Butcher’s long-awaited sequel to The Aeronaut’s Windlass is an exciting epic fantasy, set in the sky and filled with airships, magic, and the connections of blood and found family.
With many familiar faces returning and lots of magical action, this latest from Butcher (Princep’s Fury) will have fans rejoicing at the return of Chicago’s only professional wizard.
Fans of the author’s “Dresden Files” books may want to give this new universe a try; also recommended for fantasy readers looking for high-action Victorian-style weirdness such as Gail Carriger’s “Parasol Protectorate.” [“The author blends familiar steampunk and fantasy elements…in a fresh and wonderful way that results in a fantastic ride”: LJ 9/15/15 starred review of the Roc: NAL hc.]
The author blends familiar steampunk and fantasy elements (airships, wizardry, and heroes from a monarch's guard) in a fresh and wonderful way that results in a fantastic ride. This should well satisfy fans of fantasy, sf, or their stepchild steampunk. [See Eric Norton’s sf/fantasy spotlight feature, “A Genre Takes Flight,” LJ 8/15.]
This is urban fantasy par excellence, with magical action, moral dilemmas, and a wonderful cast. Series fans will love this, and there is enough backstory for newcomers.
Butcher's latest installment (after Ghost Story) in the "Dresden Files" series will keep readers invested from start to finish with lots of action and an ending that will have them craving the next title. With a colorful cast and laughs throughout, this series will appeal to readers interested in urban fantasy or Kim Harrison's work. Though Butcher's loyal fans will be craving this one, it is relatively easy for anyone to pick up and start the series with this book.
