Läckberg leaves her thriller’s conclusion open-ended, signaling the possibility of a third installment. Libraries that own The Golden Cage will want this sequel
Despite the intriguing story line and premise, the excessive details hinder the buildup of page-turning suspense. Fans of the series (The Lost Boy; Fallen Angels) will want to pick up this title, but readers expecting an exciting crime thriller should keep looking. [See Prepub Alert, 6/21/15.]
Once again Läckberg has written an exciting, fast-paced mystery. Though the flashbacks to the 1940s can be distracting, this secondary plot is just as intriguing as the main story line. Though dealing with the serious subjects of extremist groups and prisoners of war, the novel has its humorous moments. Recommended for the author's fans as well as lovers of Scandinavian mysteries.
Läckberg presents a change from the usual Nordic mystery in her protagonist Patrik Hedström, who's not the typical deeply flawed, moody, and despairing character many detectives are in this genre. Highly recommended for Läckberg's many devotees as well as fans of cozy police procedurals.
With the popularity of all things Scandinavian, this is a must purchase. [“Readers of Läckberg’s two previous books will not be disappointed. The author keeps the interest high in both story lines and ties the two together in a disturbing conclusion,” read the review of the Pegasus hc, LJ Xpress Reviews, 4/13/12.—Ed.]

Stieg Larsson fans seeking more Nordic crime fiction may want to try Sweden's top-selling crime writer. Läckberg is also highly recommended for readers who like mysteries set in foreign countries.
