Though it’s possible that fans of Malpas’s contemporary romances might be satisfied with this effort, those who typically enjoy Regency romances are unlikely to be as forgiving. This novel is unevenly paced, with inconsistent characters who feel out of place in their setting, and provides an unnecessarily convoluted plot.
Fans of Malpas’s previous book, The Protector, will appreciate seeing those characters playing minor roles here, but for anyone who enjoys Sleeping with the Enemy–style stories, this is a perfect choice.
Told primarily from the hero's point of view, this earthy, supersteamy, emotionally intense, and definitely British story is the latest in Malpas's beloved "This Man" series, which is scheduled to begin filming for TV later this year. Malpas (The Forbidden) lives in Northampton, England.
Introspective and suffused with angst, this very British, very modern story with a New Age slant takes on the taboo topic of infidelity in a brave, cutting-edge romance. While not for everyone, this is a worthwhile read. Malpas (The Protector) lives in Northampton, England.
