This is an outstanding book. Not only is it eye-opening to see how students feel about schools and education, it is encouraging to read teens express themselves so capably. It also displays the influence of 826, one of the more innovative school/community partnerships out there. A valuable look at education from students' perspectives.
An excellent overview of the complex social environment of high school, told in an accessible and often humorous and touching manner. High school students as well as adults, especially those who are or were part of the "cafeteria fringe," will enjoy this book. Very highly recommended.
The writing style is faster paced and more humorous than in most books in the genre, which can help make a difficult and stressful process a little easier to take. An excellent guide, especially for students trying to compete at the top level for spots at Ivies or other high-end institutions, as well as their parents.
Kohn, a surprisingly accessible and at times witty educational policy expert, raises lots of issues about the educational system and how we might improve it. Readers interested in educational policy—parents, students, or professionals—will find Kohn's well-written essays thought-provoking, even if they do not agree with his conclusions.
With an extremely academic tone, this is a valuable resource for professors and administrators in higher education using or supporting service learning.
An excellent resource for students with disabilities and their families; at this price, within reach for most people and libraries. Highly recommended.
