A quintessential Perry novel, this must-read demonstrates her trademark understanding of the human condition and is filled with complex and passionate characters.
This atmospheric and fast-paced novel is a welcome addition to the series. Those who enjoy the interaction between Daniel and Miriam fford Croft may be disappointed since she only makes a brief appearance in this novel. Recommended to fans of historical British mysteries, such as those by Charles Finch and Charles Todd, as well as fans of Perry’s other series.
Obvious comparisons to Charles Todd’s Bess Crawford and Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs are warranted, but this novel also hearkens back to Helen MacInnes’s classic spy thrillers and Mary Stewart’s romantic suspense novels. At turns heartbreaking and action-packed, this gripping and superbly written story proves Perry still has what it takes. [See Prepub Alert, 2/25/19.]
Highly recommended for fans of the first Pitt series and other historical mysteries. Authors who are similar in theme include Charles Todd, Deborah Crombie, Jacqueline Winspear, and Charles Finch. ["Fans of Perry's long-running "Thomas Pitt" series will delight in following the adventures of a new generation": LJ 4/1/18 starred review of the Ballantine hc.]
The 32nd book in the "Charlotte and Thomas Pitt" series (after Treachery at Lancaster Gate) brings the story of Perry's Victorian sleuths to a close...
Perry's 14th Christmas story offers a strangely intriguing mystery handled neatly by the wonderfully capable Victor and Vespasia. [See Prepub Alert, 5/9/16.]
With barely a mention of Christmas, read this one for Perry's skillful rendering of Stromboli and the inhabitants unfortunate enough to be there during a volcanic eruption. [See Prepub Alert, 6/1/15.]
