Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic) returns with another epic story of love and remembrance that probes deep into history while also penetrating profound matters of the heart. [See Prepub Alert, 4/8/20.]
This series launch is filled with wonder, action, and marvelous characters. The final book, A Conjuring of Light, came out in February. New readers can devour the entire trilogy this summer. (LJ 12/14)
Schwab's picturesque and fascinating follow-up to A Darker Shade of Magic takes readers back to the worlds of alternate Londons, magic alive, dead, and resurrected, and characters who shine through all of their shadows. Fans of the first book won't be able to put this one down.
The three Londons we see (and rumors of the one we do not) will captivate fantasy readers. They are pleasantly grounded by the grimy Georgian version that is Lila's home. While scrappy, pragmatic wannabe pirate Lila is a big draw, Kell and White London magician Holland round out a great cast. There is much more to explore in this amazing world from the acclaimed author of Vicious.
The title of the book should not dissuade younger readers from picking up this volume as it includes invaluable guidance on many personal finance topics that affect those under 50, including saving for college, paying off debt, and preparing for the golden years.
While this book would make an excellent special subject text or reference book for anatomy, histology, or evolution, the descriptions are presented as readable and engaging stories about various species, suitable for anyone interested in the subjects.
