Binchy's writing is loved by many, and while die-hard fans will be anxious to get their hands on this latest offering, it also seems many readers will have moved on. Overall, an unremarkable collection that doesn't stand up when compared to other works by the beloved author. [See Prepub Alert, 9/28/15.]
Binchy's many fans are sure to want to listen to this. ["With little to tie the narratives together and a lack of consistency with the characters, it is difficult to develop an emotional attachment to any of the street's residents," disagreed the review of the Knopf hc, LJ 3/15/14.]
Fans of Binchy, as well as readers curious about Irish life over the years will savor this often-light read (but should be ready with the hanky at times).
Some readers will be happy to have one more volume from the popular Binchy, but those looking for another Quentins or Tara Road will undoubtedly be disappointed. [See Prepub Alert, 11/15/13.]
Written in a style similar to that in Whitethorn Woods, this title features Binchy's unsurpassed storytelling as she weaves together the lives and experiences of her characters. Finished shortly before Binchy's death in 2011, this final offering will please many of the author's fans, but some may be disappointed that it isn't on a par with her earlier works. While it may not be Binchy's best, this tale of love, friendship, redemption, growing up, and moving on is a lovely swan song for the beloved author. [200,000-copy first printing.]
