The plot moves fairly quickly, although the chapters that take place in the past may throw casual readers for a loop. With plenty of twists and turns, this title is sure to attract lovers of domestic thrillers such as Natalie Barelli’s The Loyal Wife and A.J. Flinn’s The Woman in the Window.
Blake's well-written sophomore novel will interest her fans. Those who enjoyed Jessica Shattuck's The Women in the Castle, as well as fans of traditional historical fiction, such as Herman Wouk's The Winds of War, will enjoy. [See Prepub Alert, 11/19/18.]
Full of substance and delightful characters with intriguing and intricate lives, Harrison's first novel will be a strong pick for fans of historical fiction featuring strong female leads, such as Kate Alcott's A Touch of Stardust and Jacqueline Winspear's popular "Maisie Dobbs" series.
Obviously a strong pick for fans of classic gothic tales, such as Dracula, but also good for anyone who appreciates gripping historical novels, including those by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. [See Prepub Alert, 4/30/18.]
While the plot plods a little bit in the beginning, and the jumps forward in time may disconcert casual readers, overall this compelling read will appeal to those who enjoyed the supernatural aspects of Katherine Howe's The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. Morgan's title, however, has more romance and a heavier emphasis on familial relationships.
This third novel from Kostova (The Historian; The Swan Thieves) will delight the author's fans. A slight hint of the mystical will appeal to readers who enjoyed Deborah Harkness's "All Souls" trilogy, while the mystery and thriller aspects will keep fans of Dan Brown and Umberto Eco reading. A good choice for fans of the Bard, most historical fiction readers, and some romance lovers. It should be noted that many romance fans will find this too long and detailed for their tastes and historical fiction readers may shy away if they don't take to Shakespeare. [See Prepub Alert, 6/29/15.]
