Surrounding the 500th anniversary of Luther's famed Ninety-Five Theses, there has been a predictable glut of books on the Reformation. Enthusiastically read by the author, this one stands out. Highly recommended for students of history or religion. ["Anyone interested in religious history will thoroughly enjoy this readable biography": LJ 11/15/17 starred review of the Viking hc.]
Highly recommended for students of the history and political foundations of early America. ["Intended for both history enthusiasts as well as casual readers, this book will especially appeal to fans of post-Colonial U.S. history": LJ 11/15/16 review of the Pantheon hc.]
Oddly, while warning listeners not to stereotype other cultures, the authors frequently do just that. Aside from touting mindfulness as a valuable tool in the arsenal of intercultural understanding, there is very little new here that seems beyond the reach of good manners and common sense. Recommended for international business people lacking such.
With a villain whose main weapon seems to be a cell phone with unlimited international minutes, a cast of characters straight out of an English drawing-room comedy, and a barely discernible plot, this program is only redeemed by the dedicated exertions of award-winning narrator Michael Page, whose acting prowess somehow makes this mess of a book entertaining. Recommended for die-hard Higgins fans only.
Recommended for history collections. ["This comprehensive account doesn't shy away from the horrors of war, successfully providing an evenhanded chronicle of the events that led up to Pearl Harbor": LJ 9/15/16 starred review of the Scribner hc.]
Fast-paced, well written, and compelling, this work is highly recommended for fans of environmental biology and adventure narratives. ["A must-read that will appeal to those interested in wildlife or conservation": LJ 5/1/16 starred review of the Scribner hc.]
