Gibson and cowriter/actor Smith present an intriguing and trippy spin on time-travel tales that is maybe a tad too fast paced, with readers never quite finding the time to unpack everything that is going on and what it all might mean.
Here are ten short stories, including "Johnny Mnemonic" (see also Keanu Reeves's 1995 film of the same name) and the titular "Burning Chrome," in which Gibson coined the term cyberspace...
Of interest to fans of sf and of Gibson's work. ["The author weds exciting action with an endless stream of big ideas that will stay with readers long after they turn the last page," read the starred review of the Putnam hc, LJ 10/15/14.]
Gibson leaves his one-step-into-the-future thrillers (his "Bigend" trilogy wrapped up with 2010's Zero History) behind for something a little more complicated and shows he can still stun readers with his ability to take a trenchant look at the present and give a striking vision of the future. Just as he did with his groundbreaking first novel, Neuromancer, the author weds exciting action with an endless stream of big ideas that will stay with readers long after they turn the last page.
Actor and award-nominated narrator Roberston Dean brings a clear, well-paced reading to this compilation, which will catch the ears of Gibson fans. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 8/1/11.—Ed.]
A good crossover book for fans of fashion, cutting-edge technologies, and spy thrillers as well as followers of science fiction. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 4/1/10.]
