Black’s latest is a fast-paced, atmospheric mystery that brings back memories of worldwide fear after 9/11. It’s best for fans of the series who will recognize the numerous characters and memories brought together in the 20th in the series (following Murder in Bel-Air).
Cameron writes with great respect for Indigenous Alaskans and builds suspense steadily in this story. Readers can pick up this installment without having read the other titles in the series. This crime fiction won’t disappoint fans of law enforcement novels and adventures set in the Alaska wilderness.
The recounting of dog showing and whelping is sometimes a bit dull, but overall this memoir is well written and sincere. However, with so many recent dog stories, this is not a necessary purchase and recommended only where demand is high.
