Many readers who have grown up with the “Christy Miller” series will applaud this newest release. A great Christian beach read or just a gentle escape to accompany a cup of tea.
The sometimes uneven quality of the writing and weak character development may disappoint fans. Nonetheless, Gunn's (Kate Weldon and Christy Miller series) descriptive powers make the seaside community come alive for readers. Delia Parr devotees might appreciate this one.
Canary Island is just as much a character in this novel as the people. In Gunn's capable hands, descriptions of warm breezes and sand transport the reader. Tender and heartfelt, this should appeal to readers who like older characters receiving second chances. Recommend it to those who enjoyed Roxanne Henke's Finding Ruth.
