As she attempts to redeem her world, the adventures of the Iron Princess will keep readers engrossed in this cleverly plotted novel. Fans of fantasy and particularly of Hambly’s (Prisoner of Midnight) complex and often enchanting style are certain to enjoy this imaginative story and its heroine.
Hambly’s characters seem too modern for the 1920s setting, as if they’ve been transported from the 21st century, and the story is all style, with little to sink one’s teeth into. Recommended for cozy mystery and Hambly fans and those who are interested in 1920s Hollywood.
Although the pace lags in places, Hambly, who also writes the historical mystery series featuring freed slave Benjamin January, imbues this historical horror novel with plenty of thrills and authentic historical details for a satisfying entry in the series (following 2012's The Magistrates of Hell).
The tenth entry in this outstanding historical series (Dead and Buried) is set in the Rockies as our hero, a free man of color, attends the annual rendezvous of mountain men...
This is an interesting story but not as compelling as its predecessors. In addition, some of the fascinating interaction of the main characters, so well described in the previous books, is lost here. However, fans of this popular fantasy author will demand it.
