ALL GOOD THINGS come to an end, and this month, two notable crime fiction series are concluding. Fortunately, we have a new beginning with Allison Brook’s cozy series launch and our Pick of the Month, Death Overdue.

Summer reading season is well underway, and this month’s titles offer opportunities to visit Hollywood, tour our nation’s capital, book some murderous European travel, and literally go to the dogs with a pack of ­canine-themed detective novels that are sure to have fans sitting up and begging for more.

A number of the authors reviewed this month have been nominees or award winners. Of special note are several debuts with prize-winning potential, such as Abir Mukherjee’s historical A Rising Man, and Annie Hogsett’s Too Lucky To Live

CHANGE IS IN THE WIND for this month’s column, as the new co-columnists Lesa Holstine and Ann Chambers Theis are combing their expertise and passion for the genre. They hope to build on the accomplishments of previous columnists and will continue to emphasize information useful to collection management and readers’ advisory librarians and readers who love a good mystery.
