This fifth book in the Jonah Sheens series (after Little Sister) stands on its own. It is a solid police procedural with a believable and interesting plot, good characters, excellent pacing, and multiple twists and turns. Perfect for fans of Peter Robinson.

Police procedurals can often be predictable and easy to solve for steadfast fans. Not this time. Without employing obvious red herrings or misdirection, Lodge prevents readers from becoming attached to any one theory. This plausible unpredictability is quite engaging.

Lodge’s second “Jonah Sheens” mystery (after She Lies in Wait) is a compelling police procedural with a well-drawn cast of characters.
