Robertson's series debut offers an intriguing premise, but the story is marred somewhat by overwrought prose and villains who all tend to verge on caricature. For fans of historical thrillers and libraries with a healthy amount of wiggle room in their budgets.
It's always fun when Dallas manipulates her enemies and watches them slowly unravel. Fast-paced and humorous, with just the right amount of romance, this is sure to please fans of this highly addictive series. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 9/1/10.]

Despite the lush tropical setting and fascinating premise, this title is too convoluted and contrived to be truly enjoyable. And the once sizzling chemistry between Temperance and Det. Andrew Ryan has vanished, replaced by a tiresome, wisecracking repartee. For extremely loyal Reichs fans only; others new to the series may want to search out her superior earlier titles instead.
