A steady build-up that questions the origins of a tragedy and the motives of the survivors and pits survival, ambition, and perhaps the truth against each other, leading to a finale that will surprise even the most perceptive readers. Will appeal to fans of Jennifer Hillier, Jordan Harper, and Michelle Sacks.
Some may guess the surprise ending, but even so, Marr’s (Strangers We Know) latest will keep listeners engrossed until the end. Highly recommended for fans of Lucy Foley, Ruth Ware, and Gillian Flynn.
This debut thriller from Marr has a promising plotline but seems to get caught up in the details, moving at an achingly slow pace, as Angela’s thoughts are constantly broadcasted. Still, fans of suspense who enjoy elaborate descriptions and relish knowing every thought of the protagonist will appreciate.
Recommended for fans of today's British monarchy, who will come away further admiring the queen's mind for detail, her openness for enabling the royal household (and her tax obligations) to evolve, her nuanced relationship with 13 successive prime ministers, and her strong marriage. Those who just love the gossip may prefer to look elsewhere. [See Prepub Alert, 7/18/11.]—Margaret Heilbrun, Library Journal
