Highly recommended as a concise study of the United States’ entrance into the Vietnam War. Further, it’s an excellent primer on how countries can charge down the wrong warpath.

Warren's well-written monograph contains a great deal of insight into the tactics of war on the frontier. Readers interested in Williams would be better served by John M. Barry's scholarly Roger Williams and the Creation of the American Soul. On the Narragansett during the period in question, Lisa Brooks's Our Beloved Kin is a must-read.

This is a must read for all students of the Vietnam War. It is especially valuable for those seeking a greater understanding of the conduct of these wars from the North Vietnamese viewpoint.
