Ensuring that content is discoverable to end users is one of the biggest challenges facing institutions and libraries. The University of Toronto, Mississauga (UTM) and The Newberry Library have adopted Quartex, the new publishing solution from Adam Matthew Digital, to publish digital assets and enhance the discoverability of the collections held within their libraries.

Partnering with leading libraries and archives around the world, Adam Matthew Digital has over 25 years of editorial and development experience in creating award-winning digital primary source collections for teaching and research across the social sciences and humanities. Quartex now offers users the ability to utilise Adam Matthew Digital’s unique platform to publish their own archival content - making it discoverable and searchable. Quartex is also the only platform with built-in Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) search technology, making manuscript materials fully searchable.

The first collection to be published on the Quartex platform by the UTM is the Mississauga campus student newspapers, The ErindallianMedium IIand The Medium. These newspapers provide coverage of student politics, activities, and campus events, and feature original poetry and cartoons from 1968 to 2005. The Newberry Library is publishing the John M. Wing Foundation Printing Collection containing materials on printing, publishing and graphic design from the late eighteenth century through to the twentieth century. Due to the diverse nature of materials held within the collection, The Newberry Library is exploring all features and functionality of Quartex – including preservation, ingesting a variety of existing metadata sources, and solutions for the display of audio and video assets.

During this webinar, we will be speaking with Mary Beth Atkinson, Digital Assets Management Technician at UTM, and Matt Krc, Digital Initiatives Librarian at the Newberry Library, on their experiences of using Quartex and the benefits it will bring to their library users.
