This appropriately titled book guides readers through the steps of drawing over 50 different adorable animals. London-based illustrator Lecouffe spends a page explaining how to understand different shapes and running down a list of basic drawing tools and pigments before describing the techniques. Each 10-step drawing project is supplemented by a guide to coloration. The animal subjects are organized into five chapters by their native habitat: desert and savanna, forests and mountains, Arctic and ocean, woodland and wetland, and the domestic realm. This organizational scheme might make it difficult for readers to find their favorite creatures in the book, especially since the animals within each category are not arranged in alphabetical order, but the table of contents is fairly clear. Among the drawing subjects here are the expected cuties (piglets, puppies, penguins, hedgehogs) as well as more obscure beasts (servals, dik-diks, klipspringers, least terns), each accompanied by fun facts.
VERDICT An easy-to-follow guide, best for the animal aficionado.
