Inveterate hiker and backpacker Siber curated this gorgeous picture book of 100 scenic trails, which is conveniently divided into six main areas: North America; South America; Europe; Africa; Asia; and Oceania, Australia, and Antarctica. The geographic areas include deserts, mountains, relative flat areas, seasides, tundras, and jungles, primarily located on publicly accessible lands. The hikes range from easy and moderate to strenuous and expert. Some of the lighter treks may take minutes to hours to complete while others last for days, weeks, or months, depending on the distances and difficult terrains. The work also includes an upbeat foreword by adventurer Andrew Skurka, breathtakingly beautiful color photographs of National Geographic quality, information about hiking gear, and a brief pitch for hiking conservation. The text is upbeat and informative, especially for the lesser-known locations.
VERDICT For novice and seasoned hikers alike.
