The second “Dog Agency” novel (after Tatum Comes Home) features real-life TikTok star Ducky the Yorkie. Ducky has momager Christine, many aunts and uncles, and a slew of snazzy outfits. Ducky also has a knack for knowing when the humans he meets need some of his magic. When Christine goes on a business trip, schoolteacher Layla agrees to take Ducky. A weekend turns into a few weeks, which turns out to be good news for Layla, because she needs help. While she has a new drop-dead gorgeous colleague, her town faces a crisis. The plant that provides most of the jobs is struggling and soon the funding for free and reduced lunches is cut. Layla worries that she’ll lose her job, the school kids will go hungry, and the plant will go under. With a little help from Ducky and Christine’s influence, a plan is set in motion that might just save the school, the jobs and open up Layla’s heart for a little bit of romance.
VERDICT A heartwarming story of hope, perfect for readers needing a pick-me-up; Ducky is the perfect companion.
