Francesca Templeworth and Adam Fairchild were childhood friends, and she was devastated when he was feared lost to war. While his brother was killed on the battlefield and his father died from the grief of both his sons thought lost, Adam actually survived and has returned home to take over a title that was never meant to be his. Adam’s memory is not what it once was, which gives him a chance to meet Francesca as she is now. She is nothing like the women of her time, which is both refreshing and confusing to him. Francesca finds Adam changed by his ordeal. He is also haunted by one remaining task that he must complete before he can put everything behind him and move forward with Francesca at his side.
VERDICT The heavy backdrop of the returning warrior’s attempt to find his way home is punctuated with the lighthearted antics of the Templeworth sisters, who each found their own happily-ever-afters in the two previous books in the series (A Springtime Scandal and Midsummer Madness).
