This 12-episode French television series is set during the Nazi occupation in the fictional village of Villeneuve. The mood is quickly established with the arrival of German soldiers and the complete upheaval and confusion faced by the inhabitants. The first two episodes start slowly and focus on the relationships among the characters, but that all changes as the complexity of their lives grows and they learn to deal with life under Nazi rule. Some become collaborators or traitors, while others work with the Resistance. The program also expertly handles the plight of French Jews during this time. There are several unexpected plot twists that will keep viewers guessing and anticipating the next episode. Bonus features include several short documentaries revealing life during the occupation.
