When Moleta had to stay at home during an illness, she learned how to crochet and found the activity to be therapeutic, leading to her current career as a crochet designer. She’s known as StitchedUpCraft on Instagram, where she has a huge following. Her debut book offers readers 52 patterns for crocheted granny squares—one for each week of the year, organized by season. The six-inch-square blocks call for a variety of hook and yarn sizes (the uses of which are illustrated in the “Core Techniques” section), and each project is labeled with its skill level. The patterns are written row-by-row and demonstrated by colorful charts that come with keys that are easy to follow. The measurements are presented in inches as well as millimeters. Of course, once a crocheter has produced a pile of granny squares, they need something to do with them, so Moleta also offers instructions for stitching the blocks together to make shawls, bags, blankets, and pillows.
