After a fiery accident on a live, nationally televised cooking show, Cammie Laroux leaves Virginia Beach and returns to her family's home in Ministry, AL, to take care of her mother's catering business while her mother, Maureen, recovers from back surgery. No one in the family bothers to tell Cammie that Grey Harrison, her high school sweetheart, has also come back to Ministry with his daughter, Samantha. Cammie buries herself in the catering concern and tries to fade into the background of the small, gossipy town. Complications build when Grey and Cammie can't deny they have unfinished business, as does Maureen, when her first love reappears.
VERDICT This debut novel is full of Southern charm and beauty pageants, coiffed hair, and pecan pie competitions. The story keeps readers turning pages, but confusing transitions between the narrative and the dialog cause some consternation. Still, romance readers will enjoy.
