The ever-reliable Miss Marple is at it again in the final three feature-length dramas of this long-running series starring Julia McKenzie as Agatha Christie's kindly amateur detective. In "A Caribbean Mystery," Miss Marple is vacationing at an upscale island hotel, hoping the climate will help her rheumatism, when another guest dies under mysterious circumstances. "Greenshaw's Folly" connects Miss Marple with a young mother and her son who have fallen on hard times and a strange country house with its own secrets. In "Endless Night," based on a Christie story that originally didn't include Jane Marple, a young British chauffeur with aspirations meets and marries an innocent American heiress, but (surprise!) all is not what it seems. In each of these mysteries, there are plenty of red herrings and old resentments leading to the inevitable murders that spark Miss Marple's curiosity.
VERDICT McKenzie is perfect as the seemingly ageless crime solver with the perfect manners. Recommended for public libraries where British mysteries are popular.
