Mackenzie Graham is charming and witty—as long as the conversation is taking place in her head. She desperately needs the promotion offered at her graphic design firm to pay for her mother’s health care, but it requires getting out of her comfort zone to speak to clients and competing against the firm’s golden boy, Jeremy Fletcher. Jeremy is outgoing and confident, but he is also responsible for raising his preteen niece and nephew. His orderly life doesn’t leave room for fun, much less God’s plan. Set right before the holidays, their competition for the promotion turns into a battle of which employee can out-Christmas the other to impress the boss. The festivities get more ridiculous with each chapter, and anything goes when it comes to Christmas. This has all the appeal of a Hallmark movie, with young professionals facing real-world issues.
VERDICT Monzon (“Sewing in SoCal” series) delivers tons of laughs and deep emotion in this pitch-perfect holiday rom-com with a touch of faith. For fans of humorous contemporary romance in the style of Courtney Walsh or Toni Shiloh.
