Stone (Evelyn, After) delivers a new mystery that borders between adult and young adult, as listeners follow Lily, a mom trying to provide her 12-year-old son, Everett, with a better life after being abandoned by her fugitive ex-husband. They live at the edge of a quiet Kansas town next to a storage facility that Lily manages. Everett has been sneaking inside people’s storage units and discovers news articles about five girls who went missing decades ago. He and his friend Josephine begin to investigate the disappearances, while unknowingly bringing themselves dangerously close to a killer. Meanwhile, Lily has secrets to hide and is not sure whom to trust as her ex-husband keeps trying to reconnect, a new stranger enters her life, and a suspicious detective keeps a watchful eye on Lily’s place. The growing friendship between the two kids is nice, but something darker blooms as listeners grow weary of Everett’s father’s intentions. Sarah Mollo-Christensen’s smoky voice conveys the worry and fear that eventually overcome Lily and Everett.
