Investigative journalist Mona Avery joins forces with police detective Dillon Reed to look into the disappearance of an old friend. Understandably, Dillon is initially wary of enlisting the help of a journalist in a missing persons case. There are numerous unbelievable scenarios, reminiscent of a soap opera, including the police chief officially “partnering” Mona and Dillon. Wheatley (Christmas in Full Bloom) leans heavily on one particular red herring, leading seasoned readers to conclude that the villain must be someone else.
VERDICT Recommended for readers low on reading material, with a high threshold for suspending their disbelief and an interest in oddly specific details.
