Stukin, an arts and culture journalist, showcases the style and inspiration behind interior looks designed by Adam Blackman and David Cruz, the creative team who lead the Los Angeles Blackman Cruz gallery. Organized into five chapters, the book features homes that the pair have decorated or lived in, selections of individual art pieces, specific categories of furniture that interest them, and their showroom; it also spotlights a few artists. Blackman and Cruz are drawn to a mix of tasteful gothic and expensive, hard-to-find furniture that would be difficult to acquire on one’s own. Photographs, intricately staged with highly detailed captions, are prevalent throughout the book. Some include posed, partially nude models.
VERDICT Blackman and Cruz’s particular style isn’t affordable for everyone, but this book is good inspiration nonetheless for readers craving the modern gothic look. Best suited for rounding out collections that include brighter, minimalist interior design books.
