Sulcoski (Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn) curates this collection of nonsock patterns, which features her own designs as well as the designs of various knitting community luminaries, such as Wendy Johnson, Véronik Avery, and Melissa Morgan-Oakes. The yarns used in the projects range from basic, commercially available “workhorse” yarns to hand-dyed yarns in exotic fiber blends. Tips for working nonsock projects in self-patterning yarns, which are dyed to mimic colorwork patterns, are included. Most of the patterns are for accessories like hats and gloves, which work well with sock yarn, but there are also several shawl patterns, a couple of sweaters, and a sock yarn blanket.
VERDICT Sock yarn continues to be a popular indulgence, and the marquee names associated with this book will catch knitters’ attention.
