Vampire fiction fans will sink their teeth into this fast-paced reissue, originally published in 2016, which follows Domingo, a sanitation worker in Mexico City. He is obsessed with vampires and soon has more than he can handle when he gets tangled up with a beautiful vampire woman named Atl who has ties to Aztec mythology. Vampires are out in the open in this universe, and Mexico City is supposed to be a vampire-free territory, but the novel soon demonstrates why this is not quite the case. This is a unique, Own Voices take on vampires. It may remind readers of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let the Right One In, particularly the dynamic between humans and vampires.
VERDICT This vampire crime thriller with romance elements will have wide appeal, especially among the author’s many fans.
