Five days before Christmas, Brad (Brendan Michael Coughlin) and Lisa (Ayla Kell) meet at a truck stop. He's driving to Denver to see his fiancée; her Denver-bound bus has cancelled the remainder of the trip because of hazardous driving conditions. Brad offers the pregnant Lisa a ride, providing some intriguing plot possibilities, with romance among them. After blizzard conditions force the car off the road, the pair discover the once famous, now long-closed Rosemont Lodge and are met by the reclusive owner Josephine (Grace Zabriskie) and her handyman (Brad Dourif), both pointing rifles. However, when Josephine notices Lisa's condition, the couple are permitted entrance, temporarily. From there the story is fairly predictable as Josephine warms to her visitors and both she and Lisa reveal sad family histories.
VERDICT A cut above the usual sentimental holiday movie; suitable for public libraries. [See Trailers, LJ 11/1/18.]
