Rupert Degas returns to narrate Rogers and Roosen’s second action-packed installment in the “Yoga Mat Mysteries” series (following Dead Man’s Pose). The story opens as yoga instructor Elaina Williams asks her friend Ric Peters to help her locate her missing father. Though he left a message saying he was going bushwalking, Elaina is unsettled by his uncharacteristic behavior. Ric, who has experience working in covert ops (though he bills himself as a photojournalist), agrees. The pair set off for Brisbane to see if they can get to the bottom of the mystery. Meanwhile, a group of cyber terrorists are poised to take down Australia’s financial networks, and it seems that Elaina’s father may be the key to it all. Degas pulls out the stops, offering well-crafted character voices with a staggering range of accents—American, Balkan, British, and, of course, his own Australian. Degas keeps the action moving with deft pacing, energetically narrating the action while allowing quiet moments to shine. No previous knowledge of the first book is required, as any necessary backstory is provided.
VERDICT Listeners hoping for a little armchair travel, complete with a fun mystery and endearing characters, need look no further.
