It’s a tall order, but Steffan Dekkard just might pull it off if he can make the right allies and avoid the knives, guns, and smear campaigns of his many enemies. This series as a whole, and this entry in particular, focuses on the behind-the-scenes maneuverings of government—and how easy it is to manipulate through misinformation or assassination. Readers who enjoy the cut and thrust of making deals will be fascinated with Dekkard’s wily maneuvering, but those looking for more action in their fantasy should look elsewhere.
