Within their New Order Amish community the members of the Keim family are almost revered. That makes life difficult for the members of the younger generation. At 22, Viola Keim has to deal with an alcoholic father, a sister who's going blind, and a newly discovered photograph of her grandmother dressed in an Englisher graduation gown. On top of that, she's sure she'll never find love. Viola starts working at the local retirement home and befriends a resident. Sparks fly when she meets his son, Ed, a missionary in Nicaragua. But pursuing a relationship would mean she'd have to leave her family and everything she's ever known behind.
VERDICT This series debut is a pleasant read, marred by characters whose actions seem unbelievable at times. Still, it will appeal to Gray's ("Sisters of the Heart" series) many fans, as well as those who enjoy the Amish fiction of Cindy Woodsmall.
