A killer responsible for a string of grisly murders is on the loose in Liverpool. Notes are left with the bodies detailing the famous psychological experiments the perpetrator is replicating on his victims, all of whom are connected with the university. While the letters give detectives Murphy and Rossi a glimpse into the twisted mind of the serial killer responsible for the horrific crimes, those around them doubt their ability to handle such a high-profile case. Murphy is still grieving the loss of his parents, who were brutally murdered, as well as the demise of his marriage. His younger partner, Rossi, is trying to prove herself an asset to the investigation. Murphy and Rossi do at times seem out of their element, and listeners will most likely agree with the naysayers that they aren't quite up to the task.
VERDICT Although the characters are somewhat lacking, narrator Mark Meadows moves the story along, adding suspense.
